The ABB Group, a world leader in the fields of electrification and automation, designs industrial robots at the cutting edge of technology. A multinational of Swedish origin, ABB has major training centers in France, the United States and China.
ABB turns technical training into a mobile and engaging experience
“It is necessary to create commitment, especially for populations in the field who sometimes have constraints and cannot sit back long to read training content that would be very long.”
The challenge
At ABB, training customers and technicians alike involves transmitting a significant amount of technical information. A major challenge: it was necessary to design targeted training courses, adapted to the specific needs of each audience, accessible at any time, even offline — and above all, designed for field uses.
The issue of memorization was also at the heart of the project. As Aurélien points out:”When it comes to training, you don't necessarily remember 100% of the content. Rather, it is around 30 to 40% maximum.”
ABB's main challenge was therefore to find a platform that would allow:
➡️ To create content easily and quickly.
➡️ To offer varied and fun formats to engage learners.
➡️ To access the application from multiple devices, even offline.
➡️ To redo the training courses as many times as necessary, to promote memory anchoring.
The deployment of Beedeez
At ABB, it was essential for customers and technicians to be actors in their training.
As Aurélien points out: “We take all possible formats so that people are interested. With Beedeez, we have methods that are very interactive, because the idea is for the collaborator to be as active as possible.”
Thanks to Beedeez, ABB was able to offer a wide variety of educational formats to its learners: summary sheets, videos, short texts, scratch cards or flip cards... Fun formats, easy to consult, designed to capture attention even in field conditions. And to anchor knowledge in the long term, quizzes round off the courses in order to validate what has been learned. A simple and effective way to ensure that the commitment is real... and that no one is cheating.
“We have more than 30 possible educational formats to bring diversity and create commitment. ”, explains Aurélien.
The results
Today, ABB training is more effective, more targeted, and better integrated into learners' daily lives. Aurélien explains it simply: “We use the Beedeez solution beforehand, where the person can come and review the content before the training.”
With solid prerequisites, the training becomes more effective. Because we know it: learning is much more effective when new knowledge is anchored on bases already assimilated.
Since the establishment of Beedeez, several concrete developments have emerged:
✔️ Better preparation prior to training, thanks to content that is accessible at any time.
✔️ Precise monitoring of progress, via a diagnostic tool.
✔️ Formats adapted to the realities of the field, with supports designed according to the constraints of each population.
✔️ A growing content library, with over 99 training capsules available.
ABB does not intend to stop there, on the contrary! The project has two main goals:
➔ Train as many employees as possible in content creation.
➔ Building a real, active and collaborative learning community — to allow everyone to take ownership of the content and to add their personal touch to it.
ABB wants to make training a living, evolving lever, and carried by those who are the main actors: the learners themselves.
