How do you put yourself in the shoes of a learner?

How do you put yourself in the shoes of a learner?
Summary

LInstructional engineering is a structured approach whose aim is to design, develop or transform a learning system in order to optimize the effectiveness of training. Therefore, we better help others learn when we know them well! These short exercises will help you discover how your learners think.

1. Show and Tell

Let the learner teach you

Ask your learner what skill they are best at and then explain to you what it is. How someone teaches others is indicative of how they learn.

2. Why?

Training, for what?

Why should your learner get trained? Together, draw up a list of the positive points that training would bring to the employee. This will help you identify their needs and offer them a suitable solution.

3. Brain color

Learning and personality

The DISC personality test associates everyone with a dominant color, a reflection of their personality. Free versions are available online. It will help you choose how to address the learner, what style of training would best suit them. Feel free to discuss the results together.

4. Memory

Remember... but how?

There are various types of memory: visual, auditory, kinesthetic. A simple test makes it possible to determine which one dominates in the learner. This will make it possible to propose adapted formats.

5. Obstacles

It's about overcoming them

Ask your learner what they think may be stopping them from taking a course. Practical problems (transport, etc.)? No time slot available? If you can, ask each learner to write down what is blocking them via a questionnaire, preferably anonymous.
